U.S. travel to Canada rose in July
OTTAWA–Travel to Canada from the United States reached 1.6 million trips in July, up 4.9 per cent from a record low in June, Statistics Canada reported Thursday.
Canadian travel to the U.S. rose 2.3 per cent to three million trips, and Canadian travel overseas rose 2.5 per cent to 679,000 trips.
Americans made 964,000 overnight trips – a 4.9 per cent increase – and added 579,000 same-day car trips, up 7.5 per cent.
The increases came even as the United States imposed passport requirements at land crossings.
Travel to Canada from overseas countries increased 0 low interest rate personal loans.8 per cent to 340,000 trips in July, with travel from Japan up a sharp 32.4 per cent.
The number of Japanese visits fell by a third in May, but has rebounded.
However, travel from Britain fell 11 per cent to 52,000 visits, the lowest level since May 2003.
Travel from Mexico fell sharply in July. Canada imposed visa requirements on Mexican visitors as of mid-July.
Mexican travel in that month was off 19.6 per cent from June and 36.2 per cent from the start of the year.
