Heinrich to kick off USGBC Sustainability Week

New Mexico’s U.S. Green Building Council kicks off its Sustainability Week with a picnic June 11 at Albuquerque’s BioPark. Congressman Martin Heinrich will be the guest speaker.

The eight-day event includes tours of green homes and commercial buildings, as well as a day-long seminar and vendor expo on June 19 at the National Hispanic Cultural Center’s new green education building. The tour of commercial buildings is scheduled for June 16 and includes stops at the Hotel Andaluz, Sue Cleveland High School and the South Sandoval County Arroyo Flood Control Authority Building.

The residential tour includes more than 20 homes and multifamily projects throughout the state. The projects include Elements Townhomes, Downtown @700 2nd, Villa Loma Estates and Tuscany Village no credit check payday loans. Private homes in Corrales, Placitas, the East Mountains and Santa Fe are also scheduled on June 12-13. Several of the events require tickets, which can be purchased on the group’s website.

With the increase in LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and other certified green building, the weeklong event has grown in popularity and has expanded its schedule.

The kick-off picnic will also feature an awards ceremony for green residential projects.
